Hermann Park's Bayou Parkland

Located along the southeast border of Hermann Park, the Bayou Parkland area hosts a unique environment with a diversity of trees and wildlife. The trail system through the northern portion of the Bayou Parkland winds around the eight-acre urban forest through a natural area of the park. Bayou Parkland offers a unique opportunity to preserve and protect one of the few remaining natural habitat areas in Houston proper. Reduced foot traffic allows native plant life to survive and flourish. Bayou Parkland offers a peaceful respite from the more heavy trafficked areas of the main park, is a habitat for migratory birds, and serves as a site for regeneration of native trees, especially the fragile post oaks. Several projects will take place: invasive species removal, trash removal, and cleaning/sweeping of forest trails. As with other outdoor activities participants should wear long pants, shirts with sleeves, high socks, and closed toe shoes or work/hiking boots. Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. Although water will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring their own individual water bottles. Parking is available at the Pavilion on Almeda Drive, participants are always encouraged to use metro and carpool.
